Winter wheat harvest sped up during the week with help from warmer than average temperatures, according to Cheryl Turner, State Statistician with the USDA. There were 5 days suitable for fieldwork in Ohio last week. High temperatures continued to be ideal for wheat harvest but also continued to dry out the soil. Soybean blooming and corn silking continued to outpace 5-year averages with recent increases over normal growing degree days. Hay harvest was almost able to catch up to last year’s progress thanks to the dry weather.
