The Kenton Lady Wildcats defeated Lima Central Catholic 62-46 in their girls basketball season opener on Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats took control of the game in the first quarter and led 19-13 after one period. Kenton extended its advantage to 33-23 at the half and held a 43-38 lead after three quarters. LCC pulled to within four points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Wildcats closed the game on a 14-2 run to coast to the season-opening victory.
Madison Stolly led all players with 26 points for LCC (0-1), but the Lady Wildcats countered with outstanding balance. Ashley Morris had 18 points to lead Kenton (1-0) while Ellie Miller came off the bench to score 16 points. Layne Taylor added a double-double for the Cats as she scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Kori Barrett finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds for the winners.
The Lady Wildcats will try to go to 2-0 on the season on Tuesday when they visit Benjamin Logan.
