The 2017 nomination and election of board president and vice president was held before the regular meeting of the school board on Monday During the Reorganizational meeting David Haushalter was nominated and accepted as the President of the board, while Mark Rush was nominated and accepted to be the Vice President. The committee appointments where named and stayed the same except the switching of Mark Watkins into Audit and Finance position and Mark McCullough into Facilities and Transportation position.
During the Regular session of the School Board Tracy Hiller gave her Treasurer report and told the board that they have made there first payment for the Health Savings Accounts on January 3rd, with only 9 individuals out of approximately 180 who had not set up their accounts as of the 3rd. Hiller also announced that starting Tuesday January 9th through Friday the 13th they will begin training on a new software called Sungard. Sungard is a new financial and Human Resource Software which was selected by the State of Ohio to replace the outdated DOS based software currently in use. The new software will open up new possibilities for the Kenton School system since it offers on-line tools to apply for new job positions, handle tax forms on-line, and will boost efficiency in handling financial and vendor forms. According to Hiller the transition to the new software will be a big undertaking but should be completed by July 1st.
The School Board also approved the 2017/2018 school calendar which will still include time off for the Hardin County Fair. According to superintendent Jennifer Penzarski the calendar was voted on by the staff and 81 percent chose the calendar that begins on August 17th, includes the week off for the fair, and will be scheduled to end on May 24th with graduation being held on May 26th.
The next School Board meeting will be held February 20th at 7pm.
