The Ohio Hi-Point (OHP) Career Center Early Childhood Education students have been working together with the Printing and Graphics Arts students to produce pre-school children’s books for the Council on Rural Services organization which offers support services and education programs like Head Start and Early Start to families in Auglaize, Champaign, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Preble, Shelby, and Van Wert counties.
By combining their unique concentrations, the two career-tech programs created books that are going directly into classrooms that were built from scratch. The Early Childhood Education students wrote the stories and also constructed rough drawing representations of the story boards to match and then took the concepts to the Printing and Graphic Arts students to design and print the books.
The Council on Rural Services currently has Head Start classrooms at Benjamin Logan, Riverside, Indian Lake, and Bellefontaine which has been a great internship opportunity for several Ohio Hi-Point juniors and seniors the last couple of years.
Starting this next upcoming school year, Early Childhood Education students will have the opportunity to acquire their CDA certificates while at OHP, which will allow Head Start to hire them directly after high school as a teaching assistant without being required to take extra courses.
