A Saturday evening Crash has claimed the life of an EMT and has critically injured two others.
According to information from Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart, a unit of the Southeast Hardin Ambulance District was traveling South on State Route 292 when a vehicle being operated by Rachael Willeke of Belle Center was traveling westbound on State Route 273, and failed to yield at the intersection. The vehicle struck the ambulance broadside, causing it to flip onto it's side.
No patients were inside of the overturned ambulance.
One EMT, identified as Krista McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the ambulance. Another, identified as Peggy Eastman was also ejected from the ambulance is said to be in "serious critical condition" after being transported via Medical Helicopter to Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. Alexander Young, a passenger in the Willeke vehicle was also flown to Wexner Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Willeke and a juvenile passenger were transported by BKP ambulance to Lima Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team.
