Four Hardin County Athletes have been selected to compete at the 30th Annual Down Under Sports Tournament.
The 2018 Track and Field Team will compete during the 30th Annual Gold Coast Commonwealth Games held in Queensland, Australia.
The group will be departing on Sunday, July 8. Each athlete will compete down under for individual honors and a team championship title.
Hardin County atheltes selected were:
.Emma Carter, daughter of Scott and Lisa Carter, is a senior at Riverdale High School where she has competed in the 100 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, 200 meter dash, 4x200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 4x400 meter dash, high jump, pole vault, and long jump. Emma is a 3-year letter winner in track and has placed in the top 3 at many area track meets, Hardin County meets where she is the current champion in long jump, NCC conference meet, BVC conference meets, Northwest District Division 3 meets, and has competed at two Division 3 Regional track meets. Emma has also participated in varsity and competition cheerleading and varsity volleyball. She has been a Hardin County 4-H member for 9 years, a Camp Ohio counselor 2 of those years, and is a member of Buckeye Shooters 4-H club. Emma is also a member of the Hardin County Leo Club where she served as president for two terms. She is looking forward to the 2018 track season and will be competing at the collegiate level.
.Miguel Jordan, son of Dustin Jordan and Jessica Gonzalez-Jordan, is a junior at Ada High School where he runs the 200 meter dash, the 4x200 meter relay, the 400 meter dash, the 4x400 meter relay, the 800 meter dash, the 4x800 meter relay. Miguel is a first-year letter winner in track as well as the recipient of the Amy Poe award for his efforts and accomplishments in track. He was a member of the 4x200 meter relay team which took the Hardin County Championship award. Miguel also participates in varsity soccer and varsity basketball at Ada High School. He is a 6 time recipient of the Gold Scholar-Athlete Award with an achievement of a 3.5 GPA or higher during the sports season. Miguel is also a member of our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ada where he is involved in youth group. He is a member of the Ada Liberty Belles and Boys 4-H club, Ada FFA, the Hardin County Junior Fair Board, and the NWC leadership conference. Miguel is looking forward to the 2018 track season and has plans to compete at the collegiate level.
.Nora Dellifield, daughter of David and Jami (Cavinee) Dellifield, is a sophomore at Ada High School. She is the current school record holder for Pole Vault. As freshman, she placed 4th at the NWC Conference Meet and 6th at Districts. She was an Ada Herald Athlete of the Week and was named to the Findlay Courier Track Honor Roll. She is a Varsity letter winner in Track and Field, Cross Country (2 years), and Basketball Cheerleading (2 years). An NWC Gold Scholar Athlete, she represented Ada HS at the 2017 NWC Sportsmanship Conference. Nora has been selected as a UCA All-American Cheerleader for 4 years, which has given her the opportunity to perform at Walt Disney World (2 years) and the Citrus Bowl. She is a singer/dancer in the Ada Varsity Singers (2 years). Nora has been a member of 4-H for 7 years, where she has received numerous state and county awards. She was Hardin County’s representative on the Ohio State 4-H Fashion Board (2 years), a 4-H Camp CIT, and a founding member of the Sew What 4-H Club (logo designer). She is the 4-H alternate member to the 2018 Hardin County Junior Fair Board. Other activities include: member of Trinity United Methodist Church; youth praise band member (TUMC); nursery volunteer at Ada First UMC; Warrior Athletics North All Star Cheerleading Team; Junior Beta Club; costumer, assistant dance captain, & cast member for “The Wedding Singer”; and sewed costumes for the Hardin County Players production of “A Murder In Bloom”. After High School, Nora plans to continue her education at a four year university and study costume design.
.Abbie James, daughter of Andy and Yvonne (Lowe) James, is a sophomore at Ada High School. She runs the 800 meter dash, 1600 meter dash, 4x800 meter dash, and 4x400 meter dash.
Each participant must raise money to cover the cost of the ten-day Australia Tournament Package. Fundraising is an important step to achieve the goal of competing on the international stage.
There will be numerous individual and group fundraisers in the upcoming months. Each athlete has an account at Quest Federal Credit Union for donations. Donations can also be made online with each athlete’s individual link.
