Kenton advances 5 wrestlers to the Division II District Tournament in Norwalk.

Kenton’s young team placed 6th at the District II Sectional Tournament in Clyde on Saturday. Kenton traveled to Clyde with 10 wrestlers and advances five top four finishers with three more district alternates. Brian Blankenship, Noah Thibaut and Josh Hart will have to wait to find out if they will wrestle in Norwalk.

Sophomores Noah Eikenbary and Mason Rhoades will be making their second appearance at districts after qualifying as freshmen in 2017 with Eikenbary placing third and Rhoades placing fourth in Clyde last year


Eikenbary, Kenton’s 195 pound wrestler finished in first place after beating Max Fausnaugh  of Bowling Green in a 5-0 championship round decision. Eikenbary started the tournament as a number one seed getting a first round bye, he then wrestled Colton DeAnda of Toledo Central Catholic beating DeAnde with a pin fall at the 1:35 mark in the first period advancing Eikenbary to the final round.

Mason Rhoades wrestled his way through the 120 pound bracket landing him in a final round show down for first. Rhoades a four seed beat J.T. Pickens of Bowling Green in a 9-2 major decision in the first round. Rhoades’s second victory came from Toledo Central Catholic’s junior number one seed Cresencio Solo with a pin at 2:54. Rhoades drops his final match to James Batesole where he was tech falled 19-2 in the championship round landing him in second place.

Carter Bays a freshman 145 pound wrestler was a number two seed will get his fist chance in Norwalk with a stellar second place finish. Bays had a first round bye, advancing him to a second round match against Mason Elson of Port Clinton. Bays pinned Elson at 5:25 mark advancing Bays to the finals. Dropping the championship round with a pin fall at the :33 mark, Bays wrestled number one seed Jacob Anderson, a senior from Columbian.

A pair of sophomore wrestlers Ayden Mundy and Ethan Manns secured their chance to compete at the district finals. Mundy Kenton’s 160 pound wrestler and number four seed beat Drew Homan of Toledo Central Catholic in a first round match with a fin fall at 3:59 in the match. Mundy dropped his second round match against number one seed Nick Jackson a senior from Bowling Green when he was pinned late in the opening round. Mundy dropped his next match against Kaeden Hatley of Columbian in a 7-2 decision landing Mundy in fourth place.   Ethan Manns wrestling at 170 pounds entered the sectional tournament as a number four seed wrestling and beating Gabe Reyes of Columbian with a 6-4 decision. Manns then lost his second round match to number one seed Noah Pasquinelli of Maumee Manns lost by pin fall at 3:34 before dropping his finals match against John Loparo of Clyde in a 5-2 decision.

Kenton will compete at the Division II District Tournament in Norwalk.
