Law enforcement authorities are warning of a new kind of scam taking place.

According to information on the Hancock County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, a female victim in Beaverdam reported that she received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Legal Affairs Department and accused her of tax fraud. A short time later, a person who appeared to be a uniformed officer knocked on her door and claimed to have a warrant for her arrest. Eventually the man on the phone told the victim to follow the man in the uniform to Findlay to resolve the matter. The victim eventually did this and followed the man to the area of Best Buy to where she finally determined this was a scam.

A description of the suspect and the car he was driving was given to authorities, and the Allen County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation. Authorities, who said scammers are getting bold, are advising residents to be alert to this kind of activity.
