A 20 month old baby was killed in a crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 23 in Wyandot County.

According to a release from Wyandot County Sheriff Mike Hetzel, a deputy on patrol came upon the crash site that occurred south of Carey.

A semi being operated by 43 year old Frank Bauer IV, of Hamilton, Ohio, was southbound on 23 and struck the rear of a car being operated by 21 year old Michelle Weatherholtz. The car's driver, along with occupants, 23 year old Cody Weatherholtz and 20 month old Candase Weatherholtz, were all transported to Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, where the baby was pronounced dead. Michelle was later transferred to OSU Medical Center in Columbus. Bauer was not injured.

Seat belts and a child safety seat were in use, and alcohol was not a contributing factor.

Criminal charges are being reviewed by the Upper Sandusky Municipal Prosecutor's Office, and the crash remains under investigation by the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol.
