Each of the Ohio Department of Transportations 1,629 trucks is receiving a 150-point check as part of the departments annual county-by-county operational readiness inspections. This
allows ODOTs 262 mechanics to ensure snow-fighting equipment is in top shape
before the snow begins to fall.

Last year, ODOTs snow plow trucks were driven 6,860,696 miles plowing and
pretreating roadways. Thats like 275 trips around the Earth. Crews used 600,451
tons of salt and 12,056,596 gallons of liquid deicers to treat 43,479 lane miles
of roadway.

ODOT reminds drivers that while they work hard to clear snow and ice, they need your help as well, by giving snow plow drivers plenty of room to work. Plow trucks typically drive much slower than other traffic, so be extra alert when driving near them.

ODOT plows were struck 35 times in 2016
