There was a surprise development in the trial for the former superintendent of Indian Lake Schools.

The Bellefontaine Examiner reported that Patrick O'Donnell has accepted a plea deal in the case.

O'Donnell entered an Alford plea Wednesday on one count of gross sexual imposition. In exchange for the plea, four counts each of rape and sexual battery amd five other counts of gross sexual imposition were dismissed. In addition, the charges against his wife, 47 year old Heather O'Donnell, were dismissed. She was on trial for two counts of endangering children.

An Alford plea allows Patrick O'Donnell to enter a guilty plea to the charge without formally admitting guilt.

He will be sentenced under normal circumstances, which will include mandatory registration as a sex offender.
