The Upper Sandusky Police Department was made aware of a new scam on Monday.

According to a release, a person was contacted by an individual who was posing as a former FBI agent through Facebook.

The scammers are using hacked Facebook accounts to find individuals and even use the hacked accounts to send messages from friends to make the scam appear legit. Individuals are then told they won a sweepstakes or contest but need to send money in order to collect the prize.

No real sweepstakes or contests require money to claim a prize.

Should you have questions about a potential scam, call the Upper Sandusky Police Department at 419-294-2324.
