The Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio Chapter is offering a free program on the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s on Fri., March 7 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Beatitudes Community Center, 210 N Main St. in Ada, OH 45810.
“Research has shown that cognitive changes in the brain can start 20 years or more before dementia symptoms occur,” said Pam Myers, senior director, programs for the Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio and Central Ohio Chapters. “This important program ensures that these early warning signs of cognitive decline can be identified.”
The program will share with attendees the difference between the symptoms of normal aging and those that can be related to dementia; how to approach someone about memory concerns; the importance of early detection and benefits of a diagnosis; possible tests and assessments for the diagnostic process, and free resources available from the Alzheimer’s Association.
“If you or someone you know is experiencing memory difficulties or other changes in thinking skills, don’t ignore them,” Myers continued. “See your health care provider promptly to find out the cause. Early diagnosis allows a person to get the maximum benefit from available treatments and offers an opportunity to volunteer for clinical trials or studies. It also provides time to plan for the future.”
Pre-registration is recommended. To register, call the Alzheimer’s Association’s 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900. Free educational programs and support groups are offered monthly throughout Northwest Ohio. Visit www.alz.org/crf and search by zip code to find scheduled events.
