The Bellefontaine Police Department is warning citizens about a large scam that is taking place.

Checks are being sent from a United Way office in Chicago.

They are being mailed potentially to your home via United States Postal Service Express Mail.

Although it may look official, these are frauds.

Do not attempt to cash them and notify the police department at (937)599-1010.

One check received earlier this week was for $20,000.

An alert citizen, contacted the local United Way office and they confirmed that this is a fraud scheme.

If you receive a check in the mail that you weren’t expecting, always consult with your local law enforcement agency if you believe it may be fraud.
