U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $5.7 million to nine fire departments for operations and safety and hiring of firefighters.

The money is administered through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program.

Among fire departments in our region receiving a grant, the Bellefontaine Fire Department received just over $154,500 for operations and safety.
