Buchenroth named ACEL Distinguished Senior at Ohio State

Kolt Buchenroth, of Kenton, Ohio, has been named a 2021 Distinguished Senior by the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership at The Ohio State University.

Buchenroth, along with 13 other seniors, was selected by the faculty and staff of the department for his excellence both in and out of the classroom.

“ACEL has outstanding students, and we are excited to recognize these 14 seniors for their exceptional efforts in and outside of the classrooms,” said Dr. Shannon Washburn, professor and chair of ACEL. “We know they will succeed in their chosen career paths because of the dedication they have shown to their academics and community involvement.”

Buchenroth majors in agricultural communication with a minor in agribusiness and applied economics. As an agricultural communication major, Buchenroth took courses in photography, graphic design, journalism, website design, public relations and more. He was also selected to serve as editor-in-chief of the 2021 AgriNaturalist, a magazine published by seniors studying agricultural communication as a capstone project.

Outside of the classroom, Buchenroth has been involved in a variety of student organizations, including Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, FarmHouse Fraternity, ATZ Chapter and Collegiate Farm Bureau. He also completed internships with WKTN and Ohio Ag Net/Ohio’s Country Journal.

Buchenroth was a recipient of ACEL’s Lindsay Hill Memorial Scholarship, has placed nationally with his photography in the National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow’s (NACT) annual Critique and Contest and has been a member of the CFAES Dean’s List multiple times.

He will graduate in May with a bachelor of science in agriculture. Following graduation, Buchenroth will continue his full-time role with Ohio’s Country Journal/Ohio Ag Net as a broadcaster. He is a graduate of Kenton High School and the son of Kelly and Jolene Buchenroth.

The agricultural communication major prepares students to plan, develop, and implement a communication campaign, using visual media, writing and editing. Students also study crisis communication, graphic design, marketing, and journalism so they can spread the word about agriculture.
