The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife established a Disease Surveillance Area that includes Hardin, Wyandot and Marion Counties.
That was established in June of 2021 when Chronic Wasting Disease was confirmed in deer taken in Wyandot County.
It was expanded to include all three counties in 2022.
As a result, the Deer Archery Season will come in tomorrow September 10, a couple of weeks before the rest of the state.
Hardin County Wildlife Officer Ryan Kennedy said hunters have nothing to lose by submitting harvested deer for testing, “For this year, if any hunter does harvest a deer and submits it for testing, the test results comes back that it’s a positive deer, that hunter will get a replacement tag through the Division of Wildlife so they will not have to burn the tag that they used on the deer, so essentially that deer will be replaced, the tag will be replaced.”
