District 8 Basketball Coaches Association Awards Announced

The District 8 Basketball Coaches Association announced its awards for the 2024-2025 basketball season earlier this week, which included District 8 and OHSBCA North-South All-Star Game participants, All-District teams and scholarship recipients.

The District 8 All-Star games will take place on Sunday, March 30 with the girls tip at 6:30 p.m. followed by awards at 7:30 p.m. and boys tip at 8 p.m.

Admission to those events is 4$ for adults and $2 for students.

For the girls, the District 8 red team, which will be coached by Troy Yant (Ottawa-Glandorf) and Vaughn Horstman (Ottoville), players include Karsyn Erford (Ottawa-Glandorf), Maggie Pothast (Fort Jennings), Carly Thorbahn (Ottoville), Kaitlyn Kimmet (Ottawa-Glandorf), Erica Thorbahn (Ottoville), Ayla Grandey (Bluffton), Brooklyn Koester (Ottoville) and Macee Heckathorn (Kenton).

The District 8 blue team, which will be coached by Brian Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and Mark Gregory (Crestview), consists of Lauryn Auchmuty (Columbus Grove), Morgan Baumer (St. Henry), Ellie Kline (Crestview), Rilynn Jones (Allen East), Kaci Gregory (Crestview), Avae Unrast (Marion Local), Davinee Harris (Findlay) and Laci Allison (North Baltimore).

For the boys, the District 8 red team, which will be coached by Aaron Elwer (Delphos St. John’s) and Mark Triplett (Shawnee), players include Cameron Elwer (Delphos St. John’s), Beckett Bertke (Shawnee), Trevick Bertke (Shawnee), Zori Island (Elida), Andrew Elwer (Delphos St.John’s), Willie Foster (Lima Senior), Kahlil Ligon (Defiance) and Wren Sheets (Crestview).

The District 8 red team, which will be coached by Kurt Goettemoeller (Marion Local) and Kevin Sensabaugh (Spencerville), consists of Shawn Foster (Lima Senior), Jake Gerken (Liberty-Benton), Je’Kel Cotton (Lima Senior), Will Sensabaugh (Spencerville), Owen Sensabaugh (Spencerville), Jordan Priddy (LCC), Baylen Blockberger (Coldwater) and Austin Niekamp (Marion Local).

In Division VII, Carly Thornahn (Ottoville) was named the All-District Player of the Year, while Vaughn Horstman (Ottoville) was named Coach of the Year and Chris Klear (Miller City) was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

The girls All-District first team for D-VII includes Carly Thorbahn Ottoville, Morgan Kern McComb, Lacie Allison North Baltimore, Maggie Pothast Fort Jennings, Tatelyn Faraglia Waynesfield-Goshen, Brooklyn Koester Ottoville and Erica Thorbahn Ottoville.

Members of the second team are Meredith Bockrath (Kalida), Raegan Hutchison (Waynesfield-Goshen), Addy Bacon (Hardin Northern), Addilyn Huber (Kalida), Morgan McVetta (Cory-Rawson), Ava Huffman (Pandora-Gilboa) and Kiera Ruhe (Miller City).

For the boys, Delphos St. John’s swept all the top honors in Division VII with Cameron Elwer at District Player of the Year, Aaron Elwer as Coach of the Year and Brian Clark as Assistant Coach of the Year.

The boys All-District first team for D-VII includes Cameron Elwer (Delphos St. John’s), Jarron Swick (Fort Jennings), Jase Vermillion (Arlington), Brendan Barlage (Miller City), Kole Richard (Minster), Maddox Underwood (Upper Scioto Valley) and Andrew Elwer (Delphos St. John’s).

Members of the second team are Landon Hortsman (Ottoville), Karder Agner (Delphos Jefferson), Colton Bailey (Ridgemont), Levi Glick (Waynesfield-Goshen), Cole Albers (Minster), Brogan Stephey (Minster), Xavier Stuck (Ridgemont).

In Division VI, Lauryn Auchmuty (Columbus Grove) was named the district Player of the Year, while Nate Uhlenhake (St. Henry) was named Coach of the Year and Dave Hoffman (Spencervill) was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

The girls All-District first team for D-VI includes Lauryn Auchmuty (Columbus Grove), Ellie Kline (Crestview), Rilynn Jones (Allen East), Avae Unrast (Marion Local) and Clara Goecke (Spencerville).

Members of the second team include Keira Breese (Lincolnview), Kaci Gregory (Crestview), Nicole Nesby (Columbus Grove), Megan Hughes (Parkway) and Morgan Baumer (St. Henry)

For the boys, Wren Sheets (Crestview) was named Player of the Year in Division VI, while Kurt Goettemoeller (Marion Local) was named Coach of the Year and Darren Gilbert (Ada) was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

The boys All-District first team for D-VI includes Wren Sheets (Crestview), Austin Niekamp (Marion Local), Baylen Blockberger (Coldwater), Jordan Priddy (Lima Central Catholic) and Will Sensabaugh (Spencerville).

Members of the second team include Owen Sensabaugh (Spencerville), Blake Sommers (Bluffton), Marek Donaldson (Bluffton), Grant Kremer (Marion Local) and Carder Orr (Spencerville).

In Divisions I-V, Karsyn Erford (Ottawa-Glandorf) was named Player of the Year, Jay Bostelman (Kenton) was named Coach of the Year and Tyler Rosendale (Findlay) was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

The girls All-District first team for Divisions I-V includes Karsyn Erford (Ottawa-Glandorf), Kaitlyn Kimmet (Ottawa-Glandorf), Davinee Harris (Findlay), Ayla Grandey (Bluffton) and Lilly Sifrit (Elida).

Members of the second team include Saidee Larrabee (Kenton), Oliveah Sanders (Elida), Sidney Payne (Kenton), Macee Heckathron (Kenton) and Corra Dehart (Liberty-Benton).

For the boys, Beckett Bertke (Shawnee) was named the District Player of the Year for Divisions I-V, while Mark Triplett (Shawnee) was named Coach of the Year and Nick Bertlke (Shawnee) was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

The boys All-District first team for Divisions I-V includes Beckett Bertke (Shawnee), Shawn Foster (Lima Senior), Trevick Bertke (Shawnee), Jake Gerken (Liberty-Benton) and Je’Kel Cotton (Lima Senior).

Members of the second team include Zori Island (Elida), Kahlil Ligon (Defiance), Willie Foster (Lima Senior), Logan Markley (Bath) and A’mari Wash (Elida).

Lauryn Auchmuty (Columbus Grove) is the girls representative for the OHSBCA North-South All-Star Game with Rilynn Jones (Allen East) as an alternate.

Je’Kel Cotton (Lima Senior) is the boys representative with Austin Niekamp (Marion Local) as the alternate.

The girls North-South Game will take place on Friday, April 25 at Olentangy Liberty High School with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. with the boys game to follow at 8:15 p.m.

Coaching honors for the North-South and Indiana-Ohio All-Star Game were given to Vaughn Horstman (Ottoville) and Brian Schroeder (Columbus Grove) for the girls and Kevin Sensabaugh (Spencerville) and Kurt Goettemoeller (Marion Local) for the boys.
