A house was destroyed by a fire early this morning in Kenton.

According to information from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 125 Chesney Street at around 12:15am.

Heavy smoke and fire were observed coming from the structure, which quickly became fully engulfed in flames.

Officers from the Kenton Police Department informed firefighters that the occupant safely made it out of the house.

The actual temperature at the time was 7 below zero, and the wind chill was as low as 20 below, which caused lines to freeze and prolonged the time it took to battle the blaze.

The Union County EMA arrived on scene and set up a tent with a heater and food.

Firefighters were on scene until around 5:35 this morning.

The house was listed as a total loss.

Mutual assistance was provided by fire departments from Dunkirk, Forest and Mt. Victory.

The fire remains under investigation.
