The work to bring a new grocery store to Kenton may soon bear fruit.

Jacqualine Fitzgerald, the outgoing Director of Community Development at the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance, confirmed to WKTN in a telephone call on Wednesday that she has been working, along with Kenton Mayor Lynn Webb, to bring a new store to the city, which lost the Kroger store last October.

Fitzgerald said there is a 99.9% probability a new store will occupy the entire space where Kroger was located in the Kenton Shopping Plaza.

Without naming names, Fitzgerald said the new store is family owned and is not part of a chain of stores.

She said it will offer a complete line of grocery needs along with a floral department.

The new owners are waiting for Kroger officials to sign off on the purchase of equipment inside the building before an announcement can be made.
