Fire Damages Home on West Columbus Street

A house in Kenton was damaged by a fire Sunday evening.

According to information from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 344 West Columbus Street at around 6:30pm.

Nothing was visible upon arrival, but a resident stated that the fire was in the basement and everyone was out of the house.

The fire was contained to the basement and the structure was ventilated.

Damage was listed at a total of $2000.

Dominion Gas and American Electric Power were contacted to shut off the utilities.

The American Red Cross was also notified to provide assistance to the family.

The cause has not yet been determined.

There were no injuries, and firefighters were on the scene for around an hour and a half.

An update, as of just before 10:30 firefighters were called back to the house for a rekindled fire that was now on the first floor.

Firefighters cleared the scene the second time at around 12:10 this (Monday) afternoon.
