Fire in Kenton on Friday Labeled as Arson; State Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating

One person was hospitalized in a fire that has been classified as arson.

According to information from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at just before midnight this past Friday night to 116 East Columbus Street.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and fire were visible on three sides of the second floor apartment. 

Crews made entry and were met with heavy fire at the staircase leading to the second floor apartment. 

Firefighters from Mt. Victory and Kenton made an aggressive push up the stairs and located a victim in the bathroom. 

The female victim was transported to the hospital where she remained as of Saturday. 

A male occupant and a child made it out safely.

One of the occupants is suspected of starting the fire, which is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Mutual assistance was provided by fire departments from Ada, Forest, McGuffey and Mt. Victory.

BKP EMS, Kenton Police Department and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
