If you haven’t done so yet, parents of Kenton City School students are encouraged to fill out an application for free or reduced lunches.

Cafeteria Supervisor Regina Comstock said paper applications are still available, but you can also apply online, “They can actually go to kenton.payschools.com and fill out an application. They need to register as a user, and from year to year they’ll be able to just update that application with new information.”

She said it’s never too late to apply, but, “Of course we encourage you to do it, the sooner the better, because then we can lock in your status for the entire school year. We do have a little bit of a carryover from last year, so if the student was free or reduced last year, the first 30 days of this school year they’ll continue in that same status. That kind of gives them a little bit of time to get that application filled out and get it back to us.”

Comstock said even if you don’t think you qualify, you should apply just in case, “I think there’s so many people out that don’t realize they do qualify, and the only way you’re going to know for sure is to go ahead and fill out that application.”

And she added that by applying online, you’ll find out if you do qualify right away, “You don’t have to wait for Regina to go through your application and see if it fits or not, you’re going to get an email immediately of whether you qualify.”
