A Fremont man was killed in a crash that occurred in Wyandot County just after 4 Monday afternoon.

According to a release from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, 54 year old Jeffrey A. Koebel was driving south on State Highway 53 and travelled left of center where his pickup was struck by a cement truck being operating by 43 year old Stephan L. Reigle, of Wharton.

The pickup ended up in the ditch off the west side of the road, and the cement truck came to rest in the ditch off the east side.

Koebel was pronounced dead at the scene by Wyandot County Coroner Dr. Peter Schuler.

Reigle was treated and released at the scene by the Upper Sandusky EMS.

The Upper Sandusky Fire Department, Ohio State Patrol, Upper Sandusky Police Department and Ohio Department of Transportation all also assisted at the scene.

State Highway 53 was closed for a period of time until the scene was processed and cleared.

While alcohol is not suspected to be a factor, it has not been ruled out as the crash remains under investigation by the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office.
