The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has received a few reports of citizens being contacted by someone claiming to be with AEP of Ohio.
The caller reports that AEP is upgrading meters and will be out during the day, however the electric bill is past due.
During the “upgrade”, the power will be turned off if not paid during the call.
This is a common scam tactic and you should simply hang up.
If you have questions about your bill, you can contact AEP directly at a trusted number.
