Hardin County has started to begin the 2024-25 school year which means that students need their school supplies as well as school clothes. The Helen Mabrey Shoe Fund is here to assist families, who are in need, to give their children the best start to the year.
The Helen Mabrey Shoe Fund is a 501 c3 tax exempt fund. It provides free shoes to students who qualify in Hardin County. Families can receive an application in order to get free shoes from Shoe Sensation in Kenton. Applications for the Helen Mabrey Shoe Fund are available at Helping Hands or write to acquire one at PO Box 505, Kenton, OH 43326. One pair is allowed per year.
Students must be present to try on the shoes. The club has allowed $30 for sizes under size 7 and $45 for size 8 and above only at Shoe Sensation in Kenton. The families are expected to pay any amount above these two limits if the chosen shoes are more expensive.
Students who are age 4 in pre-school through grade 12 are accepted. Those who are homeschooled can also apply. It is important that each student has a successful year in school as well as positive interactions with their peers. Having proper shoes can make a big impact on the physical and emotional being of each student.
This fund is supported by the Hardin County Business & Professionsl Women’s Club. Members are Sandy Moore, Vanessa Brim, Norma Frederick, Connie Dietz, Patty Garmon, and Melissa Tracy.
