The Hardin Northern 3rd graders visited the ag room to learn about sand, silt and clay.
Landon, a junior and soil team member, described the 3 types and what crops grow best in them. Then Bella and Aubry, senior members of the soil judging team demonstrated drainage of the 3 soil types by pouring water through the different types to see how fast the water drained.
Dylan, a sophomore and member of the rural team, with the help of the 3rd graders discussed with others what lived in the soil such as earthworms, plant roots and other small bugs.
They finished the lesson with a treat of pudding, gummy worms and Oreo cookies which were all compared to different parts of a soil profile.
