Thanksgiving is postponed.

Well that’s what 3rd grade students learned when they completed a math challenge this week.

They learned that in 1705, the town of Colchester, Connecticut had to postpone Thanksgiving for a week due to a molasses shortage.

The challenge helped the students figure out how many of a variety of ingredients they would need to put on a Thanksgiving dinner and not postpone their meal.

They had to multiply, divide, use properties of multiplication and solve one and two step word problems.
