Kenton Coed Middle School Wrestling Finishes 14th place at Elida Tournament

Kenton Middle School wrestling team places four wrestlers at Elida Invitational on Saturday, February 8 at Elida Fieldhouse. Out of twenty-two teams, Kenton scored 67 points and placed 14th in the team race. Karson Davis, Anthony Hunt, Danny Combs and Eli Kauble reached the podium.

Davis, wrestling at 86 lbs, defeated Devin Harris of Allen East in the first round, but then fell to the consolations after losing to Renson Spear of Van Wert. He then won out by beating Kaleb Giesige of Celina, Tanner Stammen of Coldwater and Timmy Rocha of Crestview to make it to the consolation finals. However, Davis and his opponent could not compete due to reaching the maximum allowable matches in a day. Both wrestlers shared the 3rd place title.

Hunt moved down a weight class to compete at 104 lbs. As the top seed, he had a bye in the first round and then defeated Christian Thatcher of VanWert and Zach Ponx of Liberty Benton to make it to the finals. Hunt narrowly loss 0-1 to Will Jolliff of Findlay in a tight match giving up an escape to Jolliff in the third period.

Danny Combs started strong at 205 lbs and pinned his first opponent Landen Kraner of Lincolnview. He then fell to Kory Slaght of Bath and Caleb Bledsoe of VanWert, but finished like he started with a win over Kraner again for 5th place.

At 245 lbs, Kauble pinned Tytus Dally of Elida, but then fell to top seed Ian Suever of Spencerville. He then bounced back and pinned Kyle Slaght of Bath to make it to the consolation finals. Kauble fell to Carter Price of VanWert to place 4th.

128 lbs – Landon Dillard, 1-2

134 lbs – Austen Gerlach, 0-2

172 lbs – Matthew Handel, 0-2

205 lbs – Danny Combs, 2-2, 1 Pin – 5th Place

245 lbs – Eli Kauble, 2-2, 2 Pins – 4th Place
