The Kenton girls tennis team hosted another Western Buckeye League match against Defiance Tuesday night.

Kenton beat Defiance in a close match 3-2 to win their 3rd WBL match and are 3-3 in the WBL and 6-4 overall.

First singles Mykaela Schriber of Kenton bested Maria Resenddez 6-1, 6-3. Kenton’s Kelsey Flowers topped Alexa Bickford 6-2, 6-4 at second singles. Helping close out and win the match were Kenton’s first doubles.

Kenton’s Abigail Hartshorn and Elizabeth Heintz won 6-4, 6-2 over Defiance’s Camilla Rodriguez and Alexia McNett.

“We were very excited to win another WBL match tonight but more proud of our girls attitudes and composure to be able to close out their matches and play their best. Abby and Liz were playing long points to deuce and were able to stay within themselves to win. They had great cross courts, did well finding the empty court, and strong volleys. We are very excited to see how the rest of this week goes and were glad to see our girls really beginning to out-think their opponents,” said coach Katie Isenbarger.

In other play, third singles Brianna Shank of Defiance beat Kenton’s Lily Osborn 6-1, 6-1. Second doubles from Defiance Yoselin Ruiz and Chloe Westein bested Kenton’s Abigail Hartshorn and Kayce Sherman 6-1, 6-1.

Kenton travels to Bluffton Wednesday.
