Kenton Wrestling Team Places 8th in Weekend WBL Championships

The Kenton Wrestling team travelled to Defiance for the Western Buckeye League Championships this past Saturday.

Kenton scored a total of 41.0 points to placed eighth at the tournament ahead of Ottawa-Glandorf and Lima Bath. St. Mary’s finished on top with a total of 203.5 points.

Seniors Carter Bays and Brandon Bowling lead the team and finished on the WBL podium. Bays, wrestling at 170 lbs, defeated Tyler Lauck of Lima Shawnee (Fall :36) and Jace Schaefer of St. Mary’s (Dec 10-4) before dropping the finals match versus Tyler Carlin of Celina 11-1 for Runner-Up honors. Bowling pinned Rece Rutledge of Celina (1:43) in the first round of the 195 lb weight class, but dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Ean Kramer of Wapakoneta in the second round. In the third round, Bowling pinned Zoran Cannode of Lima Bath (1:16), but lost another tough 3-1 decision in the Consolation Finals to Spencer Blue of Van Wert to earn 4th place in the tournament.

The Kenton Wrestling team will be hosting Ottawa-Glandorf on Tuesday at home and then travelling to Van Wert on Thursday to finish out the WBL season before Sectionals.
