13 Kenton High School students (6 Seniors/ 7 Juniors) are the first in the school’s history to
receive the new OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal.

The seal is a formal designation that students can earn on their high school diplomas and transcripts indicating they have the personal strengths, strong work ethic and professional experience that businesses need.

To earn the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal, motivated high school students must demonstrate certain proficiency in the top 15 most important professional skills identified by business leaders in Ohio, including work ethic, creativity/innovation, leadership, and career management.

Upon approval, the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal is printed directly on students’ transcript, and students are given an actual seal to affix to their diploma.

During this school year, each OMJ-Readiness Seal recipient worked with at least 3 mentors, who validated that these students demonstrated these skills at work, in school or the community when performing an internship or volunteering. These mentors helped students learn and obtain professional skills in diverse environments with the oversight and coordination of Mrs. Cross, Career Readiness Advisor at Kenton City Schools.

The majority of this year’s seal recipients worked on obtaining the seal while enrolled in the Wildcat Community Connectors program.

For this year’s graduating class, obtaining graduation seals were optional. However, for the class of 2022 and beyond, these and other local seals have been incorporated into graduation requirements to show students are prepared for college and/or careers.

Businesses and higher education institutions across the state recognize and value the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal as an indicator that a student is prepared for their future.

Earning the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal helps set a student apart from others and gives them a competitive advantage in the job and college application process. The seal acts as a recommendation from the student’s mentors, giving them a powerful credential during an application process.
