KHS Coed Varsity Wrestling Finishes 7th Place at Bucyrus Invite

The Kenton wrestling team placed 7th out of fourteen teams with just five wrestlers at the 34th Annual Bucyrus Pool Tournament.

Elgin High School won the tournament with eighteen wrestlers scoring 210.0 points.

Karson Davis, Logan Brown, Anthony Hunt, Gavin Manns and Matthew Handel were the only wrestlers that competed at the tournament.

Karson Davis competed in a six man round robin bracket at 113 lbs and posted wins over Cameron Blasetzky of Monroeville by Inj. Default and Olivia Gill of Findlay by pin (3:15). Davis went 2-3 on the day and placed 4th at the tournament.

Logan Brown went undefeated in the pool rounds at 132 lbs posting wins over Sawyer Cooper of Bucyrus by pin (1:35), Tony Garcia of Waite by 8-1 Decision and pinning 2nd Seed Mickolas Takacs of Monroeville (2:52). Brown fell in the Championship bout to number one Seed Caleb Clary of Upper Sandusky (3;12) to place 2nd.

Anthony Hunt, wrestling at 150 lbs, also went undefeated in the pool rounds and defeated Kamdyn Vanderpool of Buckeye Central by pin (1:23), Alijha Hanning of Northwood by pin (:55), Jarret Rice of Ashland by pin (:53) and Ben Seitz of Monroeville by a 4-2 Decision. Hunt went on to the Championship match, but fell to Kaiden Luikart of Elgin (3:22) to place 2nd as well in the tournament.

Senior, Gavin Manns, competed in a six man round robin at 165 lbs. Manns defeated Hayden DiPuccio of Ashland by a 13-4 Major Decision and David Parker of Hillsdale by a 8-4 Decision to place 4th at the tournament.

Matthew Handel wrestled in the 215 lb weight class that had the largest field of the tournament with sixteen wrestlers. Handel battled back from a first round loss to Jaime Vasquez of Waite (1:23) and defeated Dillen Darst of Cardington by pin (:59) and Daren Yaussy of Bucyrus by (1:52). Handel then advanced to the fifth place consolation match by Forfeit and fell to Luke Waldo of Egin (:57) to placed 6th.
