The Kenton High School Mock Trial team took home first place honors at their district contest for the first time in school history.

The “Courtroom Crew” as they are known battled other school from around Northwest Ohio. The team is advised and instructed by practicing attorney Mrs. Christina Cross.

The Ohio Centers for Law Related Education Mock Trial contest is the largest non-athletic contest for high school students.

Cross said that she’s very proud of her class.

“Absolutely, I think they are going to go far and I think that they take away so much from the competition. Just dealing civilly with your opponents to public speaking and legal research and oral argumentation.”

The team brought home three awards. Alex Haushalter and Brice Heckathorn took home “Best Attorney” awards. Jarrett Dyer won best witness. Cross noted that this is Haushalter’s second time winning her award.

The team will next compete at a regional contest in Columbus.
