It’s the end of an era for a Hardin County bank.

Today is the last day Liberty National Bank will operate under that name.

The Liberty signage was taken down on Tuesday, and beginning tomorrow December 1, the bank will be operating officially as Middlefield Bank.

Liberty Bank has a long history in the county.

It was organized in April of 1902.

At the time, the First National Bank was in operation, and the two institutions served the Ada area for many years.

In 1958, the Board of Directors for both banks joined forces and decided to merge.

At the time of the merger Liberty National Bank was adopted as the name.

Fast forward to May of 2022, when the Middlefield Banking Company, and Liberty National Bank jointly announced that they entered into an Agreement and Plan of Reorganization.

The transaction is valued at approximately $64.4 million.

Middlefield Bank will operate a total of 22 full-service banking centers across a 12-county operating footprint.

Middlefield’s branch network will further expand by adding Liberty’s six branches located in Ada, Bellefontaine, Kenton, Marysville, and Westerville.
