A tragic discovery was made this past Thursday, when Lima Police officers responded to a report of a deceased person in the 600 block of N. Sugar Street.

According to a release from the Lima Police Department, at approximately 1:10 p.m. on February 20th, a utility worker discovered the body of an unknown black female off the roadway, concealed and covered in snow.

Investigators processed the scene overnight, and the Allen County Coroner ordered an autopsy where they identified the body as that of 33-year-old Ayan Abdi Hersi.

Ms. Hersi had been reported missing on January 31, 2025, through the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. Surveillance footage from that day showed her leaving a mobile home in the 1800 block of Reservoir Road shortly after noon. Her body has now been sent to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for further examination.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in determining Ms. Hersi’s movements between January 31 and February 20.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Steve Stechschulte at the Lima Police Department Detective Bureau or submit anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers at (419) 229-7867.

The case remains under investigation as police work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Ms. Hersi’s death.
