One person is missing after a fire destroyed a house west of Alger Sunday afternoon.


According to a release, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County Fire and Explosion Investigation Team and the Ohio BCI&I are assisting the Alger Fire Department in the investigation of a 2 alarm fire that destroyed the residence of Hugh and Hilma Reis at 0532 County Road 80.


Hardin County Dispatch received a call at approximately 4:20pm reporting fire and heavy smoke coming from the home, and that someone may have been entrapped. Mr. Reis is the only person believed to be in the house at the time of the fire. He has not been located, and his whereabouts is unknown.


Investigators are continuing to work through heavy debris as they search the residence and continue their investigation.
