House Bill 45, which cleared the Ohio legislature last week, was signed into law by Governor John Kasich this past Thursday.

The law designates the Month of May as “Neurofibromatosis Awareness Month,” providing recognition and awareness for the genetic disease impacting an individual’s nervous system.

Ohio becomes the first state in the country to make the designation. State Representative Robert Sprague will present local resident Larry Gossard with a copy of the law at an event in Columbus on Wednesday March 14 for his efforts in getting the legislation passed.  His son Bryce has neurofibromatosis.

Gossard noted that the designation was made in the year of the 40th Anniversary of the Children's Tumor Foundation, which spearheads efforts to find a cure for NF.
