Minutes of Ag Society June Meeting Released

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Wednesday, June 1, 2022, for their June monthly board meeting.

Thirteen directors and six guests were present.

Brad Murphy, Board President, called the meeting to order.

Tim Striker, Hardin County Commissioner, spoke about the total solar eclipse coming through the county on Monday, April 8th. He encouraged the directors to allow camping, etc. at the fairgrounds for this event.

Correspondence was received from Kenton OHP FFA, Hardin Community School, Kendra Von Lehmden-Wentz, and Golden Graphics. A letter was also read from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions about their Annual Conference being held in Indianapolis this year.

Rob Wilson, representing the Ground’s committee, stated a work day needs set to prepare for the 2022 Hardin County Fair. The date set was Saturday, August 6th at 8am.

Craig Stump, Camping Chairman, stated the National Cushman Club will be moving in to the Fairgrounds on Thursday, June 9th. Judi Cronley, Secretary, has applied for the Good Sam temporary camping permit. They are expecting between 150-200 campers. It was noted the Ag. Society made $2200 from the campers of the local Cushman Club, which came in May.

Judi noted High School Band Contracts were sent to directors in May. The cheerleading event, which will be held on Sunday afternoon of the fair, is in the works. This event is taking the place of the High School Show Choir.

It was noted a judge is still needed for the JR Fair Dairy Show. Contracts for JR Fair Livestock shows were sent to their respective judges. The sheep weigh in is Saturday, June 11th from 8am-10am and the goat weigh in is Saturday, June 11th from 10am-11am. The East Gate will be utilized for these weigh in’s.

Brad Murphy, stated the on line application for vendor and concessions is still available on the Fair’s website.

Sherri Beale, JR Fair Board Advisor, stated their group picture will be taken on Sunday, June 26th. A donation of $3000 was given to the Senior Fair Board from the JR Fair Board to use where needed.

Judi stated there were 4 sponsorship groups that had to have a reminder to pay their sponsorship invoice.

The Fair Premium Book is now available on line only. Print copies will hopefully be available in the Secretary Office close to the end of June.

Under old business:
Judi stated she is still in need of judges for Open Class Decorative Painting, Crafts & Ceramics, Open Class Woodworking and Open Class Drawing.

Under new business:

A new committee was formed to work on the Solar Eclipse Event. Members of that committee will be Tim Striker, Judi Cronley, Kolt Buchenroth, Rob Wilson, Randy Clark, Brad Murphy, Craig Stump, Kaitlyn Ledley and Zach Rambo.

The next Fair Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 6th at 7pm in the Fair Office.
