New statewide minimum standards for law enforcement officers’ response to mass protest and demonstrations have been announced by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.

Certification by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board now means the agency must prohibit the use of chokeholds and other vascular restraints in all circumstances in which deadly force is not justified.

The new mass protest standard calls for agencies to develop policies protecting public and officer safety while restricting the fewest freedoms possible and limiting the use of force, coercion, and intrusiveness.
