Calvin Eugene Deckard  93

formerly of Ridgeway 

On Wednesday, December 9th, 2020, Calvin Eugene Deckard, passed away at the age of 93.  Calvin was born in 1927 in Mt. Victory, Ohio to Valentina and Lena Deckard.  He married Mary L. LeVally in 1945 and soon welcomed a son, Forrest Michael (Mike), into the family.  He began his married life as a farmer after which he worked for the New York Central Railroad, before finishing his career at Rockwell International Corporation. 

Calvin spent most of his life in the Village of Ridgeway, Ohio area and dedicated many years of service to the town.  His community service included Mayor, Councilman, and volunteer firefighter. Calvin had a passion for travel, visiting 48 of the 50 United States and parts of Europe, Mexico, and Canada.  Much of his traveling was done by motorcycle, as well as, camping in a travel trailer and always in the company of Mary.  He enjoyed being outdoors and upon retirement, spent many winters in Florida.  While relaxing in Florida, he became an accomplished woodcarver and learned how to play tennis.  In 2008, Calvin and Mary moved to Texas to spend more time with family. 

Calvin is preceded in death by his parents (Valentina and Lena), son (Forrest Michael), and a sister (Idella Loy).  He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mary, grandson Vince (Ronda), great grandson Grant, brother Dwight (Audrey), sister Norma (Cliff Shirk), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 18th, 2020 at the Hale Township Cemetery at 1:00 PM.  Donations in tribute may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
