Obituary for Howard C Shepherd

Howard C Shepherd, age 90 of Kenton passed away at 12:21 a.m. on Sunday June 6, 2021 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima Ohio. He was born August 14, 1930 in Lenawee Township, Michigan the son of the late Willis and May (Brown) Shepherd. On March 7th, 1954 he married Marcella Parrott and she survives. Howard is survived by his children Craig (Kathy) Shepherd, Peg Nichols Kidwell all of Kenton and Todd Shepherd of Alger. Grandchildren Ashley Shepherd and Tyler (Peyton) Shepherd, Chase Nichols and Tia Nichols, Brittany Shepherd and 1 Great Grandchild Oakley Austin. Howard’s siblings; a sister Carol Dodds of Kenton and brother Lloyd of Ada and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by 2 Grandchildren: Jade Nichols and Austin Shepherd; his brothers, Willis H. (Bud), Gary, Merle and Larry Shepherd and his sisters Kathleen Richey, Eulah Molk and Bonnie Smith. Howard was a graduate of McGuffey McDonald High School in 1948 and a veteran of the U.S Navy serving from 1948-1952 in the Korean War and enlisted in the Naval Reserves from 1957-1965. Howard attended 29 Navy Reunions where he auctioneered to raise money for the Salvation Army and to repair Maritime Ships on display in many States. Howard owned a John Deere Implement Dealership in Waynesfield and worked as a finished Carpenter out of the Union Hall in Lima before farming for many years and establishing a trucking company. Howard was a lifetime member of the Roundhead VFW Post 8832 serving two terms as Commander and a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Sager Lodge in Lafayette. He was also a member of the Hardin County Collectors and Restorers and enjoyed collecting and restoring 2-Cylinder John Deere tractors for many years. Howard sponsored and supported many Youth baseball, Softball and Intramural basketball teams and enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada as well as golfing and bowling with family and friends.  Howard’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. Graveside/Memorial services will be held for Howard at McDonald Fairview Cemetery Sunday June 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the McDonald Township Hall across the road from the cemetery. Pastor Amber Rex will officiate the service and the Ada VFW Post 9381 Honor Guard will be performing a full military honor ceremony. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to: USV Scholarship Fund or American Heart & Stroke Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, PO Box 182039 Dept. 013, Columbus, OH 43218-2039.
