Joanne Elizabeth (Derr) Settlage, 96 of Kenton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. She was born in Kenton, Ohio on February 3, 1927 to Roberta (Winters) Derr and Walter Derr, Sr. Her mother passed away when Joanne was 2 1/2 years old and she was raised by her father and step-mother, Stella Campbell Derr. On October 22, 1950, she married Richard R. Settlage and they enjoyed 51 years together before he was taken home to be with his Lord on December 22, 2001.

Joanne graduated from Lima South High School in 1945 and attended Taylor University in Upland, IN. She was a nurses’ aide for many years having worked at McKitrick Hospital, Hardin Memorial Hospital, Hardin Home Health and in several private homes. For over 10 years she was employed by North Electric Company.

She and her husband spent over 15 winters in Florida where they made their home at Alligator Park in Punta Gorda. They both loved riding their bicycles, swimming, fishing, singing in the park chorus, and being in charge of the shuffleboard tournaments.

Joanne is survived by her son, David Settlage of Lima, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews and a very special brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roger and Ruby Settlage of New Knoxville, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and son, Mark Settlage and daughter, Kathleen Shafer and her only brother, Walter Derr, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN.

Joanne was a member of the Kenton Faith Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and Savior and lived her faith. In 1999 she began to read the Bible through each year and kept a daily log of those readings up to the time of her death or until she was no longer able to do so.
