Stuart O. Hamilton, Age 88, of Kenton passed peacefully March 14, 2025

surrounded by his family. He was born in Toledo in June of 1936 to George and

Mildred Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Dean and Tim.

Stu is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen Hamilton of Kenton, and

three daughters Susan (Matt) Bailey, Stacy (Alec) Boyle and Cathy Hamilton. He

also has 7 wonderful grandchildren Caitlin (Tyler) Slonecker, Brennan (Alli)

Rolander, Elizabeth Baldwin, Claire Bailey, Wylie Boyle, Willam Boyle, Holden

Boyle and two great-grandchildren August and Violet Slonecker. Stuart is also

survived by two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law – as well as many nieces,

nephews and lifelong friends.

Stuart was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, OH and after graduating

became a proud member of the US Army. He served from 1955 – 1958. After

discharge from the army, he met and married the love of his life. Stuart managed

stores for Woolworth’s in Toledo, Canton and Mansfield before being transferred

to Kenton. In 1968, they moved here with their 3 daughters so Stu could manage

the Woolworth’s and they could raise their family. Upon leaving Woolworth’s,

Stu’s love of this community kept him in Kenton, working various jobs and

volunteering in the town he loved.

He was a Board Member of the Memorial Park Golf Course and a former Board

Member of Kenton Parks and Recreation. Stuart and Mary Ellen were members

of Immaculate Conception Parish for more than 40 years, where Stu served as a

devoted usher. Stu, an avid tennis player, was a founding member of the Kenton

Area Tennis Association and was instrumental in the construction of the tennis

courts at the high school, which still exist today.

Big Daddy, as he was lovingly called, was a fierce competitor. He loved winning

and more often than not, he did…tennis, golf, softball, one-on-one basketball,

bridge and other card games; Stu liked to take the top spot. He passed this trait

on to his daughters and his grandchildren. IYKYK.

At his request the family will honor the life of Stuart privately, without holding a

service. Arrangements are being handled by Price McElroy Funeral Home in

Kenton. A celebration of Stu’s life will be held July 19, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 6:00

pm at Memorial Park Golf Course in the banquet room.

Tributes for Stuart Hamilton can be made in the form of a donation to the Hardin

County Golf Foundation, 611 N. High Street, Kenton, Ohio 43326.
