Obituary for Wayne L. “Speck” Rogers

Wayne L. “Speck” Rogers, 96 of Kenton passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.  He was born in Hepburn on October 12, 1928.  On August 28, 1951, he married Arlene Carpenter and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2022.  Speck is survived by his children; Chris (Carol) Rogers, Keith (Christine) Rogers, Tab Rogers, Brent Rogers and Shane (Laura) Rogers. He is also survived by his brother, Clayton “Buzz” (Jeanie) Rogers, grandchildren; Shad, Laurel, Erin, Jessi, Taylor and nine great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son, Wade Rogers, parents, Clarence and Bertha Rogers, stepmother, Esta Rogers, brother, Gerald (Brenda) Rogers, sisters, Vivian (Gerald) McNutt and Norma (Bill) Neal and one great grandchild, Layton Rogers.  Speck was a 1947 graduate of Kenton High School.  He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy.  Wayne owned and operated Rogers SOHIO station in Kenton for many years.  He also delivered fuel and was a truck driver for Standard Oil.  He served the citizens of Hardin County as Commissioner for 3 terms and served on City council for 12 years. Wayne also was on the Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary. He was a member of the Kenton Elks Lodge #157, Kenton Moose Lodge, Kenton Eagles, American Legion and the Amvets Post 1994. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and a 32nd Degree Mason.  He loved stock car racing, drag racing and spending time at Indian Lake, but most of all, he enjoyed spending his free time with his grandchildren.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.  A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Steve Hess officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Speck to the Layton Rogers Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Stout-Crates Funeral Home.  Online condolences can be expressed to the family by visiting stoutcrates.com
