Due to its crash history, the Ohio Department of Transportation is proposing improvements to the intersection of State Route 67 and State Route 235 in Roundhead Township in Hardin County.
Despite previous mitigation measures, the intersection continues to experience crashes, prompting ODOT to explore new solutions.
A 2024 safety study recommends a single-lane roundabout.
ODOT District 1’s safety review team completed a review of the intersection and applied for safety funding, and the project was awarded funding through Ohio’s Highway Safety Program.
Construction is slated to begin in the Summer of 2028 and be completed by that Fall.
The intersection experiences higher crash rates than expected versus other intersections statewide that are similar in location, terrain, and traffic volume.
The intersection consistently ranks highest in crash rates among similar intersections in Hardin County and the surrounding counties.
According to ODOT, studies are ongoing to determine the impacts the project will have on the environment, utilities, and adjacent properties. Impacts to wetlands and the removal of some trees may occur. If impacted, necessary waterway permitting will be obtained and tree removal will occur between October 1 and March 31 to protect possibly present threatened and endangered bat species during their summer roosting period.
ODOT is seeking public comment on the roundabout design.
To be included in the project documentation, please provide comments by Monday, May 12, 2025.
