Happy Birthday today to the State of Ohio.

The state is 219 years old having been founded on March 1, 1803.

Many may think the Ohio River was named after the state, but actually the opposite is true.

The state took its name from the Ohio River.

The population today is 11.8 million, making it the seventh most densely populated of the 50 states.

The state flag is the only non-rectangular flag of all the U.S. states.

Ohio has been referred to as the “Mother of Presidents.”

Seven U.S. presidents were born in Ohio: Ulysses Grant, Rutherford Hayes, James Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft and Warren G. Harding. And an eighth, William Henry Harrison, was born in Virginia but lived most of his adult life in Ohio.
