OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital now offers 3D mammography as a part of its breast health services.

3D digital mammography, known as Breast Tomosynthesis, is a leading-edge technology that provides clearer clinical results which helps radiologists characterize abnormalities. This can allow for the earliest possible detection of breast cancer to patients who require specialized testing because of dense breast tissue or a history of breast cancer.

Benefits of 3D Digital mammography include:

.Earliest possible detection of breast cancer

.Fast, high quality 3D breast imaging

.Increased accuracy in breast cancer

.Superior visibility and specificity of the breast tissue and structures in the breast for the radiologist

.Improved patient care through fewer diagnostic interventions

Patients who may benefit from a 3D digital mammogram include:

.Those patients under the age of 74 who have had prior mammograms showing dense breast tissue

.Patients with a history of breast cancer

.Individuals who have never had a mammogram or need to establish a baseline

Joy Bischoff, RN, President and Chief Nursing Officer at OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital stated, “We are very proud to offer this new service to our community and as we wrap up Breast Cancer Awareness month, it is a good time to be reminded of the importance of breast health. Mammography has proven to save lives through early detection. In fact, mammograms can reveal nearly 90 percent of breast cancers as early as two years before a lump can be felt.”

As part of our breast health services, Hardin Memorial Hospital also offers breast ultrasound if needed and access to a patient navigator should a cancer diagnosis occur. A patient navigator provides personalized assistance to help patients, family and caregivers cope with all the tasks, decisions, emotions and physical effects they could face throughout cancer treatment.

Our Patient Navigators:

.Educate patients and family members once a patient is aware of diagnosis and a physician plan of treatment is in place

.Anticipate patient needs and connect them to community services, such as support groups, wig resources, and nutrition classes

.Find resources for financial support

.Eliminate barriers to care – assist in appointment access, transportation, lodging and more
