Patrol’s Trooper Smith Promoted to Sergeant at the Mansfield Post

Columbus – On September 26, Trooper Michael D. Smith was promoted to the rank of sergeant by Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent. Sergeant Smith will transfer from his current assignment at the Bucyrus Post to serve as an assistant post commander at the Mansfield Post.

Sergeant Smith began his Patrol career in September 2011 as a member of the 151st Academy Class. He earned his commission in February of the following year and was assigned to the Marion Post. In 2018, he earned the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement. He was selected as Post Trooper of the Year twice and District Trooper of the Year in 2020. He also earned the Criminal Patrol Award twice.

Sergeant Smith served in the United States Army from 2000 to 2004. He earned a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from The Ohio State University in 2008.
