The Kenton Girls tennis team hosted River Valley Wednesday night and lost 4-1.
Winning for the wildcats was third singles Grace Collins. Grace defeated River Valley’s Kajul Desai 6-1, 6-3.
“Grace played very smart and consistent tonight. She was able to stay in the rally long enough and hit with depth that caused her opponent to make mistakes, ” said Coach Katie Isenbarger.
In other matchplay, first singles Mykaela Schriber lost a close match to River Valley’s Sophie Thompson 3-6, 6-2, and 9-11 in a third set super tiebreaker.
Kenton’s second singles Lily Osborn was bested 6-2, 6-0 by River Valley’s Bailey Shaff.
First doubles Kayce Sherman and Aaliyah Rogers of Kenton lost 6-1, 6-2 to River Valley’s Kate Richards and Olivia Kaufman.
Kenton’s second doubles of Samantha Lowe and Abbey Anglemeyer lost 6-0, 6-2 to Courtney Cookson and Grace Payne of River Valley.
“Tonight we saw many of the girls come back in the second set. Mykaela played a third long match this week and played another third set super tie-breaker. She and Sophie went back and forth, and Mykaela came on the losing side tonight. She played some really great points and had many winners but, mentally had a setback. We saw great play also from both doubles teams but also had a mental setbacks where they didn’t relax and let the points fall into place. We play Celina tomorrow night and I hope we can come with a bit more relaxation and confidence,” said Coach Isenbarger.
Kenton is home today against Celina for their last WBL match of the season.
